With Java being available on all systems, they have the ability to act as an App store, decentralized from the hardware. Essentially, users should be able to create a profile and have the same apps on their DVR, Linux distro, Mac, PC, and PS3. Will this happen? It is entirely dependent upon how easy they are able to make Sun’s Java Store within each of the pieces of hardware. My guess is that each of the hardware providers will make it as hard as possible to integrate all of these disparate platforms. Also, it will be a long time before or legal system steps into curb anti-competitive software practices. But if this is really going to be as big as Jonathan makes it sound, they may have a big army, but they also have even more ground to cover.
We’ve been preaching to our clients for years the necessity of diving into the online world. But, while we may have scolded marketers that have not established an online presence, we have neglected our own company identity in cyberspace. The best way to remedy this situation is to dive in. Splash!
Let’s not sugar coat it. The goal of any company’s web presence is, ultimately, revenue. Even under the guise of online education, entertainment or interaction, the marketing end game is profit. So, while we’re using this medium to attract new business, the content will be relevant, informational and transparent for current clients, prospects and even competitors.
I’ll be the first to admit that developing a consistent presence in the blogosphere (I hate that word) will be a challenge for me. I’m an advocate of experiential living and struggle finding time to update and post. I’m forcing myself to stay current so that we can 1) establish an appropriate online footprint 2) introduce the world to our teams personality and expertise 3) stay on the leading edge of e-media trends and opportunities 4) grow a network of marketing experts for real-time collaboration.
I hope that you join us me this venture. We look forward to an expanded dialogue with you.
